This beautiful and abstract photograph of an Arizona landscape is actually an electron microscope image of "nanostructured material made from ultrathin layers of titanium-based compounds." Each layer (called MXenes) is only five atomic layers thick. Pretty and cool. More here.

I find this image really strange. Unfortunately, the photograph has no credit (except "San Jacinto County District Clerk Office"), but it appears the photographer was more interested in juxtaposing the stuffed animals with the blood splatter than actually documenting the crime scene. The composition is just a little too perfect. You can read the story here.
